Accelerate Your Healing with EMDR Intensive Sessions

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an effective form of psychotherapy suitable for trauma and anxiety.

Unprocessed traumatic memories often come back in the form of nightmares, flashbacks, unexplained pain or general overwhelm, especially when there are reminders of the event in your daily life.

In an EMDR session, we stimulate the left and right hemispheres of your brain in quick succession (known as bilateral stimulation) through rapid eye movements or tapping and this helps the brain to process the memories.

Intensive Structure

  • We will schedule a 15-20 minute consultation call to decide if intensives may be a good fit for you. You may decide to move forward with intensives or keep with traditional weekly therapy sessions. Whatever you chose, healing is just around th corner.

  • We will meet for a 90 minute intake session virtually or in-person. We will go over your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy. Then, we will create a roadmap for the next session(s) where you will dive into deep healing.

  • These can take place in-office or virtually (your choice).

  • We will meet for 1-2 follow up sessions to review our intensive session, or you can meet with your original therapist for integration.

EMDR Intensives Might Be For You If:

  • You’ve been meaning to get into weekly therapy for a while now, but your schedule has been so hectic and demanding that a weekly therapy appointment feels more overwhelming than supportive.

  • Something traumatic has happened recently and you need help right now, and you don’t want to spend months doing weekly sessions or sitting on a waiting list.

  • You have a clear space to do therapy work for a short period, such as annual leave, student breaks, maternity leave and would like to undertake a chunk of it then.

  • You want to do try to do a large amount of therapy work before an approaching deadline like moving, going on vacation, a family or school reunion, starting a new job, etc.

  • You have been attending counseling regularly, but an issue related to trauma has come up which your current therapist does not feel trained to process. You can attend an EMDR intensive as an adjunct to your current counseling and then continue your work with your original therapist.

Benefits of EMDR Intensives

  • Save Time, Save Money

A typical 50-minute therapy session allows for about 25-30 minutes of actual EMDR processing time after we check-in and review the week. With a 3-5 hour intensive session, we can spend MUCH more time in deep work. This saves you time and money.

  • Less Time Off Work

It’s pretty rare to find a therapist with after-work hours, and even rarer to find one with openings.

EMDR Intensives can save you from taking PTO every week to attend therapy, curiosity from your coworkers wen you have to leave every Tuesday at 1pm, and emotional interruptions in your work day when you want to do deep trauma work.

  • Faster Relief

EMDR therapy offers relief for many symptoms including PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, emotional overwhelm, burn out, and panic attacks. Because of the reasons mentioned above, EMDR Intensives offer faster results. The intensive format offers an immersive EMDR experience, which provides relief from symptoms sooner than weekly therapy.

  • Shorter Wait TImes

Because the nature of intensives occur in a shorter time frame, the waitlist is shorter with an EMDR Intensive Therapist. It’s so difficult to find a therapist with openings in this area, and intensives can get you in the door faster with quicker results.
